Academics

A primary focus during summer camp is preventing the dreaded summer slide. Our programming is centered around student reflection and literacy skills. Students will spend each morning in literacy centered activities that will assist them in their academic careers. Literacy skills learned through basic story-writing, history of musical theatre, and active discussions on social justice in the performing arts combine for a multitude of experiences and academic mentorship.

Courses in songwriting, stage production, stage management, lighting design, costume design, and audition preparation will take place in the morning activities. Afternoons will be reserved for Cabaret Showcase rehearsals and dance classes.

Camp faculty will offer classes that focus on analysis of themes in the performing arts, self-esteem, and life skills.

Field Trips

Field Trips take three times throughout the 5-week program. This year’s field trips will take us to Rehoboth Beach, a field day at New Castle Battery Park, and seeing a regional theatre professional production!

At your audition, please be ready to:

  • Sing a prepared Musical Theater and/or Pop Song
    • The Choir School will provide an accompanist.
  • Participate in a cold read of a poem
    • A cold read is when an actor reads aloud from a script with no practice or study in advance.
    • The Choir School will provide the text during your audition.
  • Sing some simple vocal exercises to demonstrate your range.
  • Discuss your interest in the camp and any prior theater experience.
